Postings that are not what they say

Our policy on fraudulent postings · in force since 2026-09-01

Above Board is a job posting platform under Ontario's Employment Standards Act, as amended by the Working for Workers Seven Act, 2025. This page is the written policy that Act asks us to post, and it says what we actually do.

Before a posting goes up

• Every posting states what it pays. A posting without pay is refused by the software, not discouraged.
• A person at Jilani Place reads every posting before it is shown, and sees who posted it. Employers who are members of the house, with a lease and a card on file, are checked at the door; everyone else waits for that read.
• No automated system ranks, screens or scores the people who raise a hand. The employer reads every hand themselves, and every posting says so.

Reporting a posting

• Every posting carries a Report this posting link, and /report takes a report about any posting. You do not need an account. Your email is optional and is never shown to the employer.
• Reports are read by a person, usually the same day. Nothing is handled automatically.

What we do with a report

• If there is any doubt, the posting is held off the board while we look, and the employer is asked to show that the job and the business are real.
• A posting found to be fraudulent is removed, the employer's account is held, and anyone who raised a hand at it is told.
• A posting that asks a job seeker for money, for banking or identity documents before an offer, or for unpaid work as a test is treated as fraudulent.
• Where the law asks for it, we keep the report and what we did about it for three years, and we keep every past version of this policy for the same length of time.

What we never do

• We never charge a job seeker anything, ever.
• We never list anybody looking for work on this site.
• We never let a machine decide who an employer meets.
