Postings that are not what they say

Our policy on fraudulent postings · in force since 2026-10-02

Plain Wage is a job posting platform under Ontario's Employment Standards Act, as amended by the Working for Workers Seven Act, 2025. This page is the written policy that Act asks us to post, and it says what we actually do.

Before a posting goes up

• Every posting states what it pays. A posting without pay is refused by the software, not discouraged. A pay range can be at most $50,000 a year wide ($24.03 an hour for an hourly job), unless its top is over $200,000 a year.
• Every posting says whether the employer uses AI to screen, assess or select applicants, and whether it is for an existing vacancy. Those are the employer's own answers, shown as they gave them. A posting made before we asked shows them once its employer next edits it.
• In the Floor app, a posting from a member of Jilani Place (checked at the door, with a lease and a card on file) or from a business we have checked goes up straight away. Every other posting, including every posting made on this website, waits until a person at Jilani Place has read it and seen who posted it. Each posting says which of those happened.
• No automated system on Plain Wage ranks, screens or scores the people who raise a hand. Every hand goes to the employer as it was written.

Reporting a posting

• Every posting carries a Report this posting link, and /report takes a report about any posting. You do not need an account. Your email is optional and is never shown to the employer.
• Reports are read by a person, usually the same day. Nothing is handled automatically.

What we do with a report

• If there is any doubt, we take the posting off the board while we look, and ask the employer to show that the job and the business are real.
• A posting found to be fraudulent stays off the board, and everything that employer posts after it waits for a person to read it first. Anyone who raised a hand at it sees, in their list of applications, that we took it down.
• A posting that asks a job seeker for money, for banking or identity documents before an offer, or for unpaid work as a test is treated as fraudulent.
• We keep every report, when it was handled and by whom, and the posting it was about, for at least three years, and we keep every past version of this policy for the same length of time.

What we never do

• We never charge a job seeker anything, ever.
• We never list anybody looking for work on this site.
• We never let a machine decide who an employer meets. An employer who uses AI on their side says so on the posting.
